Funny tomato
I picked this tomato at the weekend, sliced it and fried it to go with sausage and egg. (Fried green tomatoes are very tasty actually, and are a great way to use up the unripe fruit if you find that you have too many tomatoes.) Anyone else out there ever grow tomatoes with a weird sticky-out bit like this one? And why does it happen at all, I wonder? |
hi- just read your blog on tomatoes and two things stuck out, 1) is it ok to eat green tomatoes even fried as you suggest and 2)for the first time in many years i have grown tumbling toms in a large tub and found 3-4 with the little bit sticking out like the one in your picture. on other varieties i have not seen this-seems like afunny coincidence. Although mine haven’t been heavy croppers-but they do taste great.
Hello there! It’s fine to eat green tomatoes – my neighbour’s asked me to save him some green ones so that he can make chutney. Apparently some people even enjoy them raw but I personally wouldn’t want to go there LOL. The tumbling toms do have a marvellous taste – beyond my expectations, actually. I will certainly be growing them again next year.
